Tech Tips: 2025 Recap
Here is a quick run-down of top tips and some new changes:
- Windows 10 going out of support: Windows 10 is being retired by Microsoft. You can find tech tips (www.monroecc.edu/go/techtips) on using Windows 11 online - scroll down to Windows 11.
- Print Queue Update: New network print servers are being put in place. Switch now to the new network queues – mcc-b151.monroecc.edu (Brighton campus) and mcc-d151.monroecc.edu (Downtown campus). Directions for adding a print queue are on our Tech Tips page. For shared printers in Buildings 5 and 8 select Brighton-PrintReleaseStations.
- Password Expired? Go to Network Account Services site (https://myaccount.monroecc.edu) and select the Reset Password button. If you have any issues, call Employee Technical Support - Monday through Friday, 8:45am to 4:45pm, at 585-292-TECH (8324).
- MFA (multi-factor authentication): The Microsoft Authenticator app is the most secure MFA option and we encourage members of the MCC community to make it their default authentication choice. Please ensure you are using the latest version of the app by checking your device’s App Store for updates. If you should lose your mobile device or leave it at home, call Employee Technical Support -- M-F 8:45am-4:45pm at 292-TECH (8324).
- Cybersecurity Awareness Training: Annual training is assigned in October each year. Additional training may be assigned after clicking on a simulated or real phishing email. Check your KnowBe4 Dashboard (through myMCC – Employees – Technology – Technology Help – Technology Training – Cyber Security Awareness Training) to ensure all your training is complete. Employees with past due training will have their network account passwords set to expire every seven days until all assigned training is complete.
- Microsoft Teams: Teams is part of our Microsoft license and can be used to chat, collaboratively edit, take part in threaded conversations, share files, meet, and even call other members of the MCC community.
- Microsoft OneDrive: OneDrive is available for all MCC employees and provides a secure place to save files that also allows you to share and collaboratively edit files, you just need an internet connection to sign in to OneDrive.
- Zoom: Zoom implemented a new minimum version policy in November 2022. As of August 8, 2025, the Zoom client should be version 5.17.5 (Windows) or version 6.0.2 (macOS, Android, iOS) or higher. Check and update your version of Zoom now to avoid having to sit through a forced update when you are trying to login to a zoom meeting. If you haven’t updated your Zoom client software on your computer recently, you can manually check for updates:
-
- Click the Zoom icon on your MCC computer to open Zoom.
- Login (if needed) through the SSO button.
- Click on the profile photo or initials in the upper right corner.
- Click 'Check for Updates' on the menu that appears. The update will load.
- Click Install to complete the update.
If you have additional questions or need assistance, please call Employee Technical Support, Monday through Friday, 8:45am to 4:45pm, at 585-292-TECH (8324).
