Tech Tip: To VPN or not to VPN?

Did you know that Technology Services has secure offerings for most work-related applications that do not require using the VPN*?

  • Microsoft Outlook (email), Teams, and Office offerings (Word, Excel, OneDrive) can all securely operate without the VPN.
  • M-Drive files (edit and save) can be accessed without the VPN by using the Acronis web portal
  • Files stored in Teams/OneDrive only require an internet connection and sign in to Teams.
  • Many additional secure resources are available without the VPN through the myMCC portal. Contact Employee Technical Support at 292-8324, option 3 for assistance in finding the right solution to access files or applications off campus.

VPN is currently required for Banner “power users”, individuals who need to access specialized software packages on desktops when working remote, as well as for direct file-share access to the M Drive.

See How to Access Commonly used MCC Resources from Off-Campus in Tech Tips (www.monroecc.edu/go/techtips).

*VPN is Virtual Private Network, for which MCC uses Cisco AnyConnect, found at myvpn.monroecc.edu.
