The criminal justice police program offers the high level of professional training required for this challenging and rewarding field. The law & criminal justice department developed the criminal justice police program in collaboration with a county-wide advisory board, helping to ensure the most relevant and effective curriculum for a successful career as a police officer or other law enforcement agent.

You may even earn course credit based on prior learning. Learn how to test out of courses and earn credit with CLEP.

In addition to police officer, the criminal justice police program lays a strong foundation for a wide range of front-line law enforcement positions, including:

  • Asset protection officer
  • Sheriff or deputy sheriff
  • Campus safety officer
  • State trooper
  • Patrol officer

Study Police Science in the Classroom and in the Field

The police option of MCC’s criminal justice program emphasizes the specific skills, knowledge and attitudes needed to be an effective law enforcement agent. You’ll study the structure and functions of all things related to criminal justice, including the principles of law and justice, the structure of the courts, the importance of community involvement, and the role of corrections.

You’ll apply what you learn through an internship, enabling you to get workplace experience under the supervision of a public agency or private firm in the criminal justice field. Upon successful completion, you’ll be ready to apply for law enforcement positions in many municipal organizations and select federal departments, including:

  • Monroe County Sheriff
  • New York State Police
  • Town police departments
  • Private corporations
