YourLocalSecurity.com Names MCC Safest Campus in New York
YourLocalSecurity.com,
an ADT authorized premier provider, ranks Monroe Community College eighth on
its 2018 list of the nation's 25 safest colleges/universities. MCC is also
ranked as the safest college campus in New York state, according to the
study.
The article, written by Kylie McQuarrie and published on April 24, notes how
"safety is fast becoming a determining factor" for students and families to
consider when choosing a college. Data sources include the U.S. Department of
Education's Campus Safety and
Security survey of campus crime statistics (reported by colleges between
2014 and 2016) and the FBI Uniform Crime
Reporting program for cities that host college campuses. Colleges were
considered only if they served more than 1,000 students and only a college's
main campus was studied; property crime, violent crime and violence against
women were analyzed leading to a per capita crime rate. Colleges without
sufficient data were not included in the ranking.
In the article, MCC is recognized for its campus locations in Brighton and
Rochester and the quality of public safety resources, including its "Silent Witness"
program that offers anonymous crime reporting
