Monroe Community College Presidential Search Finalists
Monroe Community College has selected four finalists to move forward in the
search process for the next president of MCC. The finalists and a brief bio of
each are listed below. Full CV's will be available later this week. Beginning
next week, the candidates will meet with a variety of stakeholder groups as
indicated in the previously released schedule.

As a reminder, the link for the Open Forums and feedback surveys will be
released in advance of each candidate visit. Questions for the Open Forum will
be collected ahead of time and be asked of each candidate. If you have

finalists:
DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna
Dr. DeAnna R. Burt-Nanna has more than two decades of higher education
leadership experience supporting students, faculty, and staff. Currently, she
serves as the Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs for South Central
College (Minnesota State).
Dr. Burt-Nanna has progressive leadership in campus and system roles as
faculty, department chair, dean, system department coordinator, vice president
and senior academic and student affairs officer on the presidents' cabinets in
two- and four-year, union and non-union, public and private, multi-campus
institutions and systems in two states. Her exemplary leadership has been
pivotal to advancing key campus and system strategic priorities for student
success, implementing operational efficiencies, and facilitating organizational
culture change. She has also held various positions in business and industry,
and maintains laser-like focus as an advocate for diversity, equity and
inclusion, educational access and attainment, philanthropy, and workforce
development at the local, state, and national levels.
Dr. Burt-Nanna is characterized as a visionary and authentic leader, an
inspiration, systems-thinker, and woman of integrity. A 2020-2021 Aspen
Presidential Fellow, 2019 Thomas Lakin Institute for Mentored Leadership Fellow
and 2008-2009 ASHE/Lumina Dissertation Fellow, she studied abroad, has received
a host of awards and recognitions, and speaks publicly in various personal and
professional capacities.
Academically, Dr. Burt-Nanna holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Educational
Leadership, Research and Technology, a Master of Business Administration, and a

Shawna J. Forbes
Dr. Shawna J. Forbes currently serves as a member of the esteemed faculty at
Wayne County Community College District (WCCCD) in the discipline of Psychology
and most recently served as the Vice Chancellor for the School of Continuing
Education and Workforce Development.
During her time as the Vice Chancellor for the School of Continuing
Education and Workforce Development, Dr. Forbes provided leadership for the
implementation and execution of the District's Strategic Plan by providing
quality programming and services throughout the District. Managing a budget of
approximately $20 million, servicing more than 30,000 non-credit and credit
students in short-term certificate programs, workforce trainings,
grants/contracts management, and community outreach that was aligned with
current and future trends. Dr. Forbes has served in several positions including
Executive Associate Vice Chancellor of Instruction, Associate Dean of Career
and Technical Programs, Assistant Dean for Transfer Programs, and Adjunct
Faculty.
A native of Detroit Michigan, Dr. Forbes earned her Associate of Applied
Science degree from WCCCD; a Bachelor of Business Administration from Detroit
College of Business; Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from University of
Detroit-Mercy; and Doctorate of Philosophy in Higher Education from the
University of Toledo.
Ronald A. Milton
Dr. Ronald A. Milon is the Chief Diversity Officer at the Fashion Institute
of Technology and a member of the President's Cabinet. In this position, Dr.
Milon provides leadership and vision for diversity and inclusion initiatives
throughout the campus, ensuring that they align with the principals and goals
of the college's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Strategic Plan. Milon
currently serves as co-chair of the college's Diversity Council and actively
participated in the development of its strategic plan
Prior to his appointment as CDO in 2016, Ron served as associate vice
president for Academic Affairs. In this role he worked closely with, faculty,
and administration in areas as varied as budget and fiscal resources,
facilities, personnel, and academic technology infrastructure. He also served
as interim dean of FIT's Center for Continuing Education and Professional
Studies.
Before his tenure at FIT, Dr. Milon worked at Bergen Community College,
joining the administrative staff in July of 2008 as the Founding Director of
Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands. Milon also served as Acting Vice
President of Continuing Education and Community Outreach, where his
responsibilities included workforce development, continuing education, grants
and civic engagement. His final position at Bergen was vice president of
administrative services where he was responsible for the organization,
administration, and planning of all business affairs of the College.
Dr. Milon loves working with student in leadership training and in his
political Science classes. He has taught American Government, American
Presidency, Introduction to Politics, International Relations and other courses
since 1989. His recent training and research focus is in diversity and
inclusion training and civil rights.
Dr. Milon has a PhD in Adult Education from Capella University, an MA in
Political Science from the New School for Social Research, an MA in History
from the University of Buffalo, and a BS degree in Political Science and
History from SUNY/Brockport. For three years, he was a Ralph Bunche Fellow as
part of a City University Graduate School and University Center program. He
earned certificates in leadership from Penn State University and Leadership New
Jersey, completed a workshop in Diversity and Inclusion Initiatives Training at
Cornell, and Diversity certification on the professional standards provided by
NADOHE and SUNY for Chief Diversity Officers.
Kathleen Schiefen
Since joining Genesee Community College in 2013 as Provost and Executive
Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Schiefen guided the College through a
successful Middle States Accreditation process as one of the piloting
institutions for the revised Standards for Accreditation. During her
tenure at GCC, she has led the College through the State University of New
York's Seamless Transfer initiative, a revision of College's institutional
learning outcomes, served on the steering committee for GCC's 2018-2023
Strategic Plan, and the negotiating team leading to a successful contractual
agreement with the Genesee Educational Association.
In 2018, Dr. Schiefen was selected to co-chair the State University of New
York's General Education Advisory Committee; a state-wide team working to
ensure every SUNY graduate has met key learning outcomes. In 2016, she received
a SUNY Performance Improvement Fund grant to enhance cultural competency and
improve inclusion of diverse people at the College. Through this opportunity,
Dr. Schiefen led the creation of a minority internship program for adjunct
faculty, a rural-urban scholarship exchange for faculty, and provided
professional development opportunities.
In 2011 while serving as the Academic Dean of the Damon City Campus at
Monroe Community College, Dr. Schiefen was one of the founding leaders of the
Rochester Early College International High School in partnership with the
Rochester City School District. As faculty and Chair of Applied Technologies at
MCC, she collaborated with industry partners to provide significant donations
of high-end technology to ensure programs and facilities remained state-of-art.
While serving as Dean of Workforce at Pima Community College in Tucson,
Arizona, Dr. Schiefen partnered with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the Tohono
O'odham Nation to provide training and educational opportunities on their
reservations, launched credit programming for Arizona Mining Association,
provided oversight of PCC's Aviation & Avionics Training Center as well as
the State and Federal Prison education programs.
Dr. Schiefen holds a Ph.D. from Capella University, a M.S. in Adult
Education from SUNY Buffalo State, and a B.S. from Roberts Wesleyan
College.
