Tech Tip: Wi-Fi and Cell Service on Campus
Occasionally reports are made regarding the quality of wireless service on
campus. There are many variables that impact how well applications on our
mobile devices function.
One application used daily on mobile devices is the Microsoft Authenticator
App, used for Multifactor Authentication (MFA). You may receive your MFA
notification through either Wi-Fi or cell service/data and generally it
doesn’t matter as long as it works.
Unfortunately, there are areas of poor cellular coverage on campus which
result in missed phone calls, text messages, and push notifications.
If you are missing calls or text messages we recommend first checking and
connecting to the MCC Wi-Fi if you are not already (see Tech Tip for connection instructions). On your
mobile device in the settings, it should display MCC for Wi-Fi. If you
experience issues with your cell service (missed calls, texts, notifications),
please contact your carrier's customer service line to report the issue.
Employees should contact the Employee Technical Support Center at 292-8324,
option 3, M-F 8:45am-4:45pm for assistance in connecting to the MCC WiFi.
Students should contact the Student Technology Helpdesk (585) 292-8324, press
option 1 or technologyhelp@student.monroec
c.edu for assistance.
