NACCE Journal Publishes "The Intersection of Philanthropy and Entrepreneurial Studies"
The Fall/Winter 2018 issue of the NACCE Journal* includes an
article by Associate Professor of Business Administration and Economics Sherry
Tshibangu regarding MCC's Launch Your
Business! initiative. The article, entitled "The Intersection of
Philanthropy and Entrepreneurial Studies," tells the story of how the Everyday
Entrepreneur Venture Fund (EEVF), supporters of the MCC Foundation, inspired
MCC student-entrepreneurs to pitch new business ideas for Rochester and the
Finger Lakes Region. (The article is attached.)
Launch Your Business! debuted at Scholars' Day 2018 in April and
culminated at Entrepreneurship Day in November where five student-entrepreneurs
received a total of $38,000 in venture funding thanks to the EEVF. The
student-entrepreneurs benefited from an MCC Corporate College series and
support from SCORE and the
local business community. Associate Professor Tshibangu and Associate Professor
of Business Administration and Economics Kathleen Borbee served as chairs of
the college- and community-wide effort.
Launch Your Business! is now accepting applications for next
spring's event. Student-entrepreneurs are encouraged to apply and pitch their
ideas to start or grow a business. Information and an application are available
online. The
deadline to apply is March 2.
