Register Today: Diversity Conference - The Resegregation of Higher Education: How Diverse Are Our Spaces
There is still time to register for "The Resegregation
of Higher Education: How Diverse Are Our Spaces" - the first event
in our series of Diversity Conferences at Monroe Community
College. The Diversity Conference explores topics that are
essential to creating an inclusive, welcoming environment where dialogue and
civic engagement are encouraged.
MCC will host this one-day conference on Thursday, October 4, 2018. The
conference will explore structural barriers to student achievement and new ways
to transform our spaces into diverse and inclusive environments with the goal
of educating confident learners and achievers. The event will be held from 8:30
am to 3:00 pm in the Warshof Conference Center, R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center
(Monroe A & B).
The presentation will also be video-streamed to MCC's Downtown Campus, High
Falls A & B.
We are honored to have two nationally recognized leaders as keynote
speakers. Ms. Sarita Brown, President for Excelencia in Education, a
nonprofit organization based in Washington D.C. that focuses on accelerating
Latinx student success, and Dr. Fred A. Bonner, II, Professor and Endowed Chair
in Educational Leadership and Counseling at Prairie View A&M University, a
prominent educator and scholar whose research focuses on the success of
African-American males. An interactive activity encouraging participants to
incorporate learnings from the keynotes into their practice will follow both
presentations, and a book signing by Dr. Bonner will take place at the
conclusion of the conference.
