photo of MCC students at the Salvation ArmyHave you ever wondered if the human services field was right for you? Do you like helping people? Are you compassionate, empathetic, a good listener?

In this program, you have the opportunity to do fieldwork and gain experience in your first human services seminar. (see MCC's catalog program description)

If you will be a full time student, you should expect to be in classes for 12 to 17 hours per week. Some students try to limit their schedules to two days a week; this is very difficult and it is unlikely you'll be able to do this in your first semester.

Count on coming to school from Monday through Friday and be aware photo of MCC intern at Salvation Armythat the Department's attendance policy requires you to attend all classes. In addition to class attendance, you should also plan to spend 15 to 25 hours per week outside of class studying, completing homework and writing papers and projects.

In addition to everything already mentioned, all photo of woman helping childHuman Services students are required to take a fieldwork course in each of their four semesters. This course will require you to have 9 hours available each week, during the day, from Monday to Friday, to work in a community agency or school. There are very few fieldwork sites available in the evening and on weekends, so if your weekday hours are limited, be sure to contact the department as soon as possible to see if we will be able to accommodate you.

This probably all sounds like a lot of work; that's because college is a major commitment. Be assured that the faculty and staff of the Human Services department will do all we can to help you have a successful and enjoyable experience at Monroe Community College.
