Student at tooling machine

Prepare for Immediate Hire in Advanced Manufacturing with Basic Machining Training

Our Basic Machining program equips students for diverse entry-level roles in the advanced manufacturing sector. From tool room attendants to operators and entry-level machinists, this program covers essential skills such as lathe and mill operations, making graduates valuable assets to employers.

This 9-credit credential amalgamates theoretical learning with hands-on experience. Through Machine Theory (TAM 101) and Blueprint for Machinist I (TAM 131), students grasp foundational concepts. The practical application in TAM 141 provides hands-on experience with vertical mills and manual lathes, honing skills in speeds, feeds, material science, and the proper use of essential machinery in a shop environment.

Students gain proficiency in precision measurements using tools like dial indicators, calipers, micrometers, and height gauges—a critical aspect of machining.

This microcredential opens doors to multiple programs at MCC, including Apprentice Training: Machine Trades (AAS) and Precision Machining (AAS/Certificate). Additionally, our courses align with New York State Department of Labor Apprenticeship Programs, as MCC is an Approved Related Technical Instruction (RTI) provider, fostering connections with local companies for practical industry exposure.
