Transfer Pathway Guides
University of Rochester
2026-2027
Optics - B.S. (OT36)
College Web Site: http://www.rochester.edu
MCC Degree Awarded:
Optical Systems Technology A.A.S. (OT01)
Please note that some courses required in a Transfer Pathway may not be required for the MCC program. This could have financial aid implications. Students should meet with their advisor or with a transfer representative to discuss an academic plan and recommended sequence of courses.
Transfer Guide
Students interested in
this Competitive Transfer Pathway must complete an MCC program change request
and meet specific entrance requirements to be formally accepted.
For those accepted (as indicated by their MCC major): Continuous,
full-time enrollment (12 or more credit hours each semester) is required.
Enrollment, along with closely following the guide, significantly increases
the likelihood of acceptance by the University of Rochester (UR). Student
contact information will be shared with UR. Students will complete the Intent
to Enroll Form
the semester before they intend to transfer.
If not accepted, students can still follow this guide and apply
to UR using the Common Application.
All students are strongly
encouraged to meet with transfer staff at MCC, transfer admissions staff
at UR, and the MCC Optics department.
Important:
- College
Now or other Dual Enrollment courses: College coursework taught in high
school will NOT be granted transfer credit at UR. See UR
transfer credit policies.
- AP, IB,
CLEP, & Transfer courses: Credits showing as accepted by MCC may not
be transferable. See AP
Policies and IB
Policies.
Contact UR with questions.
- The general
transfer credit policy requires a C or better for credit to be awarded.
All chemistry courses must be completed with a grade of B or higher for
UR. ENG 200 must be a B or better to fulfill Rochester's writing requirement.
- This Competitive Transfer
Pathway requires students to take courses at UR while attending MCC. This
is called Cross Registration. It is needed to transfer in at junior standing.
There is no additional tuition cost for this. Students must take at least
12 MCC credits during the semester they cross register at UR. See the Cross
Registration Form (RAC Form) at the bottom of this page for instructions.
- Read notes on the bottom
of this page.
- Course substitutions
are needed as this transfer pathway does not directly follow the MCC Degree
Works worksheet. See the Optics Department Chair for course substitutions.
