RN to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) Degree

The nursing programs listed below are for students who have earned or will earn an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Nursing Degree.

Transfer Institution Requirements

SUNY Brockport
Brockport’s RN to BSN Fast-Track Completion Program:

This is a 100% online program. Students may begin this program in the spring, summer or fall semester. Term deadlines can be found on Brockport’s nursing webpage. Registered nurses must apply to the University for admission and will be reviewed for eligibility on a space - available basis by Undergraduate Admissions. RN students should note that a maximum of 75 credits may be transferred from the associate’s degree level. If a student has previous course work at a 4-year institution, those credits will be evaluated, and a maximum of 90 credits may be transferred. A BSN degree requires 120 total credits.

The admission requirements for the RN to BSN program include the following:

  • Graduate of an accredited associate degree or diploma program.
  • Unencumbered New York State license as a registered professional nurse and current registration.
  • Currently employed as a registered nurse (if not employed by last semester of the program, a capstone course of 128 clinical hours is required).
  • A cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5.
  • Successful completion of nursing prerequisites with a minimum grade of "C" (2.0) in each course (see below).
  • Submission of an acceptable application.

Required Prerequisite Courses
  • Anatomy and Physiology I & II
  • Microbiology
  • Sociology (may take in the program if requirements not satisfied)
  • Psychology

Nazareth University
RN to BSN Degree-Completion Program -Qualifications for this program include:
  • Graduation from a state-approved diploma or associate degree program in nursing with a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75
  • Achievement of at least a C grade in all lower-level nursing courses
  • Achievement of acceptable college or university credit in required courses in physical sciences, social sciences and liberal studies
  • Applicants must possess a current Professional Registered Nurse license and registration to practice professional nursing in the U.S., demonstrate knowledge and competency to practice first-level nursing, provide satisfactory references, and meet the health requirements of the nursing department

All incoming students must successfully complete the following course equivalencies as a requirement of admission to the Nursing major - RN completion:
  • MTH 208 - Statistics for Scientists (MCC course: MTH 162 Statistics for the Social Sciences)
  • PSY.Q 110 - Introduction to Psychological Science (MCC course: PSY 101 Introduction to Psychological Science)
  • PSY 221 - Development I: Infancy and Childhood (MCC course: PSY 201 Developmental Psychology - Child)

Students may complete the program on either a full-time or part-time basis. The sequence of courses and the length of time necessary to complete the degree requirements vary with the individual and depend on the number of transfer credits, credits by examination, and advanced standing credits earned, as well as on the number of credits for which the student registers each semester. Nazareth also has an LPN to BS in Nursing program.

Roberts Wesleyan University
RN to BS degree Completion Program: This program is currently 100% online and has several start dates throughout the year. It can be completed in 12 months full-time, or 24 months part-time. The curriculum is exam-free and based on papers, presentations, and projects. Students can also earn credit through prior learning assessment.

Qualifications:
  • Graduation from an accredited associate degree or diploma nursing program
  • Registered professional nurse licensure in the United States or Canada
  • Current employment of at least 16 hours per week as a registered nurse
  • Minimum of 60 semester credit hours of transferable credit from regionally accredited colleges and universities

St. John Fisher University

RN to BSN Online Program: This fully online program is designed for nurses with a current RN license or recent graduates of associate degree or diploma programs in nursing who are eligible to take the NCLEX exam (can begin program prior to the exam). The curriculum builds on the study of nursing in associate degree and nursing diploma programs. Students can transfer up to 90 credits from community and four-year colleges; 30 credits of nursing coursework transferred from an associate degree or hospital-based diploma nursing program is required. Minimum 2.0 GPA to be considered.

The RN to BSN curriculum consists of two seven-week modules each semester. There are no prerequisite courses; both nursing and liberal arts courses are included as part of the program. You may choose part-time or full-time study. Full-time students can complete the program in as little as 12-18 months. Fisher also offers an RN to BSN to M.S. Fast-Track option, where you substitute graduate nursing courses within the undergraduate curriculum.

SUNY University at Buffalo (UB)

RN to BS Program: UB’s fully online asynchronous Nursing BS-RN track program builds upon knowledge and experience of registered nurses.

Admissions Criteria:
  • Recommended overall GPA: 2.5
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited associate degree nursing program

*Please note students can complete the Statistics requirements as a prerequisite or a corequisite with our NBC 348 with a minimum of a 2.0 grade.

The Nursing BS-RN track is a flexible program that offers its coursework every semester. Students can switch from full-time to part-time plans.

UB accepts all transfer credits from all institutions you have attended.

University of Rochester

RN to BS Online Program: The program is fully online and can be completed in as little as 16 months. “CLEP” courses are accepted.

Admission requirements include:
  • Completion of a Diploma or Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
  • RN licensure within New York State
  • One letter of support
  • GPA of 3.0 preferred
  • English language proficiency
  • Resume

Students may transfer up to 64 arts and sciences credits, and are granted 32 nursing credits automatically upon admission. It is important to contact the UR School of Nursing to determine the correct liberal arts and science courses to take at MCC.

RN to BS to MS Program: Same admission requirements as RN to BS program with the addition of
  • Statistics (undergraduate-level with grade of C or above)
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Two letters of recommendation
  • Selection of a Master’s specialty (Master’s in Nursing Education, Leadership in Health Care Systems, Clinical Nurse Leader, and Nurse Practitioner).

This program is designed for exceptionally strong students with previous health care experience.
