SPT 242 - Speaking In Professional Situations

This course enables students to build on the basics of organization, vocal variety and body language learned in SPT 142. Students will apply these basic skills to a variety of professional speaking opportunities, including persuasive speaking, using technology to support speech purpose, forming and supporting arguments, and more. The skills developed in this course are immediately transferable to professional settings.

Prerequisite: SPT 142 or SPC 142 or permission of instructor.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. organize, write and deliver several types of presentations using specific speaking criteria for professional situations
2. analyze and evaluate professional and peer presentations through written and/or oral feedback sessions using specific criteria for professional speaking
3. work in teams to design, prepare and present a symposium according to professional speaking criteria
4. facilitate a question and answer session following a professionally delivered presentation using formal speaking criteria
5. plan, design and deliver a presentation incorporating multimedia techniques using a confident, spontaneous and professional style of delivery supporting a speech purpose
