Transfer Guide

As of Spring 2025, this is an advising guide only. MCC students no longer apply to the "Competitive Transfer Pathway" for this major. Students are advised to follow this guide and apply to RIT the semester before finishing their studies at MCC. The RIT Program Director is happy to meet with students to discuss the program and options. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

The Liberal Arts and Sciences degree (LA04) provides flexibility to tailor coursework for a smooth transfer. The goal is to obtain your A.S. degree while taking SUNY General Education and foundation courses for your major at the 4-year degree institution.

AP, IB, CLEP, MCC College Now or other Dual Enrollment, and transfer courses: Credits showing as accepted by MCC may not be transferable. See Transfer and Test Credit. Contact RIT with questions.

GPA of 3.0 or higher is advised for acceptance to RIT. (GPA updated on 2/5/2025). Acceptance will be determined by RIT.
GPA of 2.0 is required for MCC graduation.

NOTE:
Students planning to complete the MS in Dietetics and Nutrition will be most competitive if they obtain a B or higher in science courses.
It is strongly advised to complete CHMB 402 at RIT before transferring. It is offered on-line and can be taken in the summer.

- Students will be required to complete two semesters of co-ops upon transferring to RIT if an Associate's degree is achieved or they transfer at least 60 credits. If not, 3 co-ops will be required. These are typically completed during the summer.

- With required course sequences and prerequisites, transfer students must complete a minimum of 4 semesters at RIT. A Dietetic Internship is no longer required for a student to sit for the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist exam. Instead, students complete an accredited master’s program. RIT has an accredited masters program and an accelerated track for students to potentially complete the nutritional sciences BS and an MS degree in five years. There is information about this option on the RIT Nutritional Sciences website.

- Students cannot repeat core coursework more than one time. Students repeating these courses more than once will have their grade point average recalculated to include these courses in their overall GPA.

MCC ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Advising is mandatory. Students must consult with an advisor prior to course registration. The counsel and consent of the student’s advisor is important in the final selection.
Students must complete at least one 200-level course to satisfy the degree requirements.
Students must complete at least one SUNY General Education course that fulfills a SUNY Critical Thinking and Reasoning Competency (CTRN).

The Liberal Arts A.S. (LA04) will be the degree student is audited against and awarded from MCC.
