  • Use the Course Information Sheet (syllabus) as a roadmap. Every course lays out expectations, deadlines, and grading weight. Treat it like a contract and plan your semester around it.
  • Schedule Study Time. Setting aside consistent study windows each week prevents last‑minute stress and keeps you ahead of assignments.
  • Visit Faculty Office Hours Early. Building rapport makes it easier to ask for help when you need it.
  • Use Campus Tutoring Centers. Tutoring and Academic Assistance Center (TAAC). Students who use these resources regularly tend to earn higher grades.
  • Utilize MCC libraries and librarians. 
  • Register for your next semester’s classes early as soon as you are eligible to register.

  • Academic advising matters. Success Coaches help you choose classes that meet your degree requirements so you stay on track for graduation.
  • Career services Can Help. Résumé development, interview prep, job and transfer fairs, and internship connections can give you a major advantage.

  • Know your transfer requirements early. If you plan to transfer to a four‑year school, research transfer pathways and required GPAs so you can transition smoothly to a four-year college or university, Transfer Services can help.

  • Treat school like a job. Show up on time, communicate professionally, and keep commitments.
  • Protect your mental bandwidth. Sleep, nutrition, and stress management directly affect academic performance. The MCC Counseling Center can help. 
  • Ask for help before you’re overwhelmed. Connect with your Success Coach. They can support you as you balance work, family, and school. Using that support is a strength, not a weakness.
