2018-19 President’s Emerging Leaders Fellowship – Bios

Susan Gurak

Susan Gurak has been the Chief Financial Officer for the MCC Foundation since 2000.  In her role, she oversees all financial operations for the Foundation, including scholarship fund management for an over twelve million dollar endowment.  Previously, Susan worked as the Finance Director for the third largest transfusion medicine facility in southwest Florida and began her career as an auditor and tax manager for a local CPA firm. 

Ms. Gurak holds a Master’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting from University of Tampa and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting with a minor in Information Technology from University of South Florida.  In 2014, she was named Financial Executive of the Year in the small business category. 

Susan enjoys “giving back” to her community and has served on the following boards:  New York State West Youth Soccer Association, Rochester District Youth Soccer League, and the Parent Association for Catholic Education.  She is also a member of Rochester CFO’s.   Currently, Susan stays active by mentoring a  Fleet Feet “Learn to Run” program and is a pace leader in half/full marathon training.  She has done 12 half marathons in the last two years.

Susan’s passion is to help people whether it is preparing financial statements and taxes, ensuring hospitals have appropriate job costing on transfusion supplies or managing the Foundation’s endowment and scholarship funds to support student success.  Susan believes her leadership style is reflective in a quote by John F. Kennedy – “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”

Kimberly McKinsey-Mabry

Dr. Kimberly McKinsey-Mabry is the Dean of the Schools of Business and Community Engagement at Monroe Community College. In this capacity, she oversees three academic departments as well as a variety of grants and partnerships, and she serves as the academic administrator for the Downtown Campus. Prior to her appointment as dean in September 2016, Kim served as the Assistant to the Provost in Academic Services, and most recently, as the Interim Dean of Academic Services at the Damon City Campus, a position she held for three years. 

She holds an Education Doctorate in Executive Leadership from St. John Fisher College, a M.B.A. from Metropolitan College of New York, a B.S. in Community and Human Service Management from SUNY Empire State College, and an A.S. in Liberal Arts and Human Services from Monroe Community College.   Her dissertation research focused on “Factors Impacting the Career Decisions of Black Women in Management Positions at US Institutions of Higher Education“.

Kim has presented locally and at national conferences, was recognized as a “Post-Secondary Administrator” and as a “Woman to Watch” by the Democrat and Chronicle, and received an

Innovation of the Year Award from the League for Innovation in the Community College for her collaborative work on Express Enrollment Days at MCC.

Dr. McKinsey-Mabry’s passion to support woman and encourage the pursuit of educational and career goals has fueled her work in higher education. Her vision to empower women is inspired by her own personal journey.

Dan Raimondo

Since 2006, Dan Raimondo has had the privilege of serving in several capacities at Monroe Community College in Rochester, New York. As member of the faculty and administrative team, Raimondo has a diverse perspective on its strategic goals, as well as a deep commitment to its mission, students, and the communities it serves.

In Raimondo’s current position as Director of Campus Events, he plays a key role in building and sustaining cross-functional relationships that provide a fresh and forward-thinking approach to campus events; enhancing student morale, success, and retention. As a manager and team leader, Raimondo has developed a reputation as a supportive advisor and mentor, while ensuring accountability to optimize the collective impact and influence on campus.

Raimondo’s experience at The College of Brockport as the Director of Campus Life, included successful policy creation, interpretation, and communication to ensure regulatory compliance and drive best campus practices. In both of Raimondo’s roles at MCC and Brockport, he has responsibly managed multimillion-dollar budgets and has served on internal college committees and across the SUNY system.

Raimondo holds a doctorate in higher education administration from the University at Buffalo, a master’s degree in student personnel administration from the SUNY College at Buffalo, bachelor’s degrees in physical education and business administration from the SUNY College at Brockport, and an associate’s a degree in business administration from Erie Community College.  Raimondo is an active volunteer in the community, and a father of four who lives with his wife, Patty, in Brockport, NY.

Quent Rhodes

Quent Rhodes was hired by Monroe Community College (MCC) in 2017 to serve as Director of Facilities.  In this role, he oversees the Capital Projects and Support Operations department; which is responsible for all capital construction projects, facilities planning, energy management, document management, and technical support for Facilities staff.  While still a relative newcomer to the College, Quent has already played a pivotal role in the execution of multiple projects.  He is also serving as Chair of the Space Planning and Management Committee; which is the team leading the development of the next Facilities Master Plan.

Before joining MCC, Quent worked for nine years as a Senior Project Manager at his alma mater the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT); where he had previously earned a B.S. in Civil Engineering Technology in 2003.  His favorite projects for RIT include an apartment building constructed using the design-build delivery system, a research facility for the National Technical Institute for the Deaf, the conversion of the former college pool facility into a three-story campus center, and a major site improvement project to create a central transportation plaza and bike and pedestrian pathways throughout campus.

Quent’s approach to work can be summed up by a quote from David Allen, author of Getting Things Done: The Art of Stress-Free Productivity: “There are no problems, only projects.”

Quent’s favorite leadership quote is “Lead, follow, or get out of the way”.  It is the motto of philanthropist B. Thomas Golisano.

Aubrey Zamiara

Dr. Aubrey Zamiara serves as director of the Counseling Center and Disability Services at Monroe Community College.  In this position, she provides leadership and oversight for disability compliance across multiple campuses and mental health counseling services.  As director, Dr. Zamiara practices with a student-centered approach and optimizes service delivery to enhance student success.  Prior to joining MCC, she was an adjunct professor and director of the Special Academic Services department at Alfred University, which involved management of disability compliance and coordination of tutoring services for all students enrolled at the University.  Along with her higher education experiences, Dr. Zamiara worked as a board-certified psychologist in private practice serving children, adolescents, and young adults.  

Dr. Zamiara holds a doctorate in psychology from Alfred University, a master’s degree and certificate of advanced study in school psychology from Rochester Institute of Technology, and bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University at Buffalo.  She earned the credentials of a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP) and New York State Licensed Psychologist.  

In 2019, Dr. Zamiara was selected to participate in the President’s Emerging Leaders Fellowship at MCC.  In 2016, the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) recognized her with the Under 40 award and United Way of Greater Rochester honored her with the Rising Star Award.  In 2008, she received the Outstanding Achievement in Program Innovation by Alfred University.  In 2004, she was honored as a fellow of the Lea R. Powell Leadership Fellowship at Alfred University and she earned the Most Outstanding Thesis Award at Rochester Institute of Technology.
