TEK 101 - Computer Applications for Technicians

2 Credits

Introduction to computers as a tool for the technician. Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Visio are covered in the class. Students will use applications to create spreadsheets, graphs, drawings and technical documents.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate basic MS Windows operations such as; File and Folder Naming, Saving, Save-As, student network storage, Cut, Copy, Paste, move, and emailing.
2. Sketch several technical drawings using MS VISIO or other drawing program using operations such as; drawing lines, rectangles, circles, arcs, grouping, fragmenting, shape order, usage of custom technical stencils, dimensioning, alignment, rotation and fills.
3. Use a spreadsheet program such as MS EXCEL to preform numerical analysis with cells containing text, scientific functions (using absolute and relative addressing), and numbers, to do computations such as; sums, average, max and minimum, chart formatting and the graphing of linear and logarithimic scientific data.
4. Employ a word processor program such as MS WORD with emphasis on useful functions for the technical student such as; equation editor, insertion of Greek characters, table of contents, paste and paste-special (linking objects from other programs such as charts from EXCEL), object formatting, spell checker, page numbering and margins.
