THE 111 - Introduction to Technical Theatre

3 Credits

An introductory, broad based study of technical theatre involving stage lighting, scenery construction, and stage rigging. Practical emphasis will be placed on the use of tools and equipment. Course requirements include an assignment in a theatre production.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Identify the necessary hardware and material used in scenic construction
2. Demonstrate proper use of the tools and materials needed to construct the scenic elements of a theatrical show
3. Construct and paint the set to be used in the college's theatrical production
4. Demonstrate effective teamwork in technical theatre as part of the process of mounting a production
5. Write a critique of the technical aspects of the semester's theatrical production
6. Appraise the level of quality in a theatrical production in regard to the professor's standards of technical criteria of success in set design, construction, lighting, sound, costumes, and properties
