This 12 credit microcredential is designed to support in-service New York State certified teachers who are seeking supplementary and/or additional teaching certification in English. These courses cover a significant portion of the New York State learning standards and teaching competencies in this subject area.
Note: NYSED does not pre-approve any coursework for supplementary or additional teacher certifications. Teachers must submit their transcripts to NYSED directly to apply for these certifications. Prospective students are encouraged to reach out to the NYSED Office of Teaching Initiatives or their Regional Certification Office for more information on certification pathways and the application process.
NYSED requires a grade of C or higher in subject area classes in order for them to count towards certification.
Requirements –
Complete a minimum twelve credits from the following list of courses. Teachers seeking additional credits in this subject area may elect to complete additional courses from the list.
Prerequisite(s): unless otherwise noted, ENG 101 with a C or higher, placement into ENG 200, or instructor permission is required.

ENG 218 - Introduction to Shakespeare (3 credits)
ENG 223 - Science Fiction (3 credits)
ENG 230 - World Mythology (3 credits)
ENG 233 - Creative Writing Workshop-Poetry (3 credits)

· Many of the courses in this microcredential can be completed fully online
· Some courses, such as ENG 105, 113, 200, 213, 230, and 251 are offered each term. Other courses are offered on a rotating basis.
