Family and Consumer Science for Teachers

This 12 credit microcredential is designed to support in-service New York State certified teachers who are seeking supplementary and/or additional teaching certification in Family and Consumer Science. These courses cover a significant portion of the New York State learning standards and teaching competencies in this subject area.

Note: NYSED does not pre-approve any coursework for supplementary or additional teacher certifications. Teachers must submit their transcripts to NYSED directly to apply for these certifications. Prospective students are encouraged to reach out to the NYSED Office of Teaching Initiatives or their Regional Certification Office for more information on certification pathways and the application process.

NYSED requires a grade of C or higher in subject area classes in order for them to count towards certification.

ECE 151 - Developmentally Appropriate Practice for Young Children (3 credits)


ECO 103 - Personal Money Management (3 credits)

BIO 117/FSA 117 - Basic Consumer Nutrition (3 credits)

HED 130 - Foundations of Health and Wellness (3 credits)

BUS 104 - Introduction to Business (3 credits)

FSA 106 - Food Safety and Sanitation (1 credit)

FSA 108 - Principles of Healthy Cooking (3 credits)
Prerequisite: FSA 106 (may be taken concurrently or previously completed)

HEG 200 - Multicultural and Diversity Influences in Health and Wellness (3 credits)

    PSY 202 - Developmental Psychology – Adolescence (3 credits)

    Prerequisite: PSY 101

    Notes:


      · Many of the courses in this microcredential can be completed fully online with the exception of FSA 108 (in-person at the Brighton campus).

      · ECE 151, FSA 106, FSA 108, and HEG 200 are not typically offered during the summer.
