Physical Education for Teachers

This 13 credit microcredential is designed to support in-service New York State certified teachers who are seeking supplementary and/or additional teaching certification in Physical Education. These courses cover a significant portion of the New York State learning standards and teaching competencies in this subject area.

Note: NYSED does not pre-approve any coursework for supplementary or additional teacher certifications. Teachers must submit their transcripts to NYSED directly to apply for these certifications. Prospective students are encouraged to reach out to the NYSED Office of Teaching Initiatives or their Regional Certification Office for more information on certification pathways and the application process.

NYSED requires a grade of C or higher in subject area classes in order for them to count towards certification.

Requirements:

PPE 100 - Introduction to Sport Science (4 credits)

PPE 170 - Introduction to Sport Medicine (3 credits)


PPE 175 - Philosophy and Principles of Physical Education and Athletics (3 credits)

PPE 208 - Wellness, Exercise, and Sport Psychology (3 credits)

Optional Coursework: For teachers seeking additional credits in this subject area.

PPE 250 - Fitness and Wellness (3 credits)

PPE 272 - Diversity and Equity Issues in Health and Wellness (4 credits)

PPE 275 - Physiology of Exercise (4 credits)
Prerequisite(s): BIO 135 OR BIO 145
