This credential will provide a jump start for an individual wanting to enter into the Optics Manufacturing industry by providing the knowledge and skills required to be effective on the first day of employment. The courses required for this credential are part of the Related Technical Instruction for registered Precision Optics Manufacturing Technician apprentices. It provides a stackable credential even if the apprentice does not complete the Certificate or AAS degree. OPT 213 and OPT 235 are required in the Certificate and OPT 245 in the Associate Degree Programs.

Students who earn this credential are expected to be hired at an above entry-level starting wage and advance more quickly in the workplace. Registered apprentices who complete their required on-the-job learning and related technical instruction will earn journeymen status certification from either the State Apprenticeship Agency (SAA) or the US Depart of Labor, Office of Apprenticeship (USDOL/OA).
