This 9-credit microcredential will provide foundational knowledge, skills, and competencies in the areas of trauma and trauma informed care, theories of communication and crisis management, and the development of skills needed for effective management and rehabilitation of clients with mental health disorders. Emphasis is on the combination of knowledge for each area and practical application of that knowledge in real world situations.

Provides students with targeted and specialized knowledge of trauma informed care, crisis management, and mental health. These are areas that require specialized information and skills to effectively support individuals receiving services in a variety of settings. Provides immediate workforce readiness and/or preparation for continued study. It is relevant to those individuals studying human services, addiction counseling, psychology, health, education, community and disability services, early care, and criminal justice. The same is true for individuals already working in related fields who are seeking to expand career opportunities or advance current roles.

HUM 218 – Working with Trauma Informed Care Skills (3 credits)

HUM 217 – Skills for Mental Health Services (3 credits)

SPC 144 – Communication and Crisis (3 credits)
