Health and Wellness Coaching

Microcredential

Department: Health and Physical Education

School(s): Health Sciences & Physical Wellness

Health and Wellness Coaching is an emerging field that addresses changes initiated by the Affordable Care Act (ACA) as providers work on new ways to help patients change their lifestyles and stick to care plans. MCC’s 9-credit Health and Wellness Coaching Microcredential will provide participants with specific skills and a mindset that shifts to an approach that guides patients toward self-efficacy for healthier outcomes. Training involves change from a directive communication style to a guiding style that is client-centered and is grounded in behavioral theory with a hands-on approach to learning. Participants should be prepared to engage in discussions and complete hands-on activities as they build their health coaching skills. This interactive training can prepare individuals to work as a non-certified Health and Wellness Coach.

Upon successful completion of the coursework, students will have earned the MCC Health and Wellness Coaching Microcredential. Students who would like to also earn the MCC Certification as a Health and Wellness Coach must successfully complete assessments for Certification in the PPE 240 course and then Certification would be awarded upon confirmation of earned Associate degree or higher. MCC Health and Wellness Certification satisfies the local training requirement for students working toward national certification, approved by the National Board for Health & Wellness Coaching (NBHWC).
