ENR 258 - Thermodynamics

3 Credits

The fundamental concepts of thermodynamics and their application to pure substances. Topics include properties of pure substances, work, heat energy, the first law of thermodynamics, disorder, entropy, second law of thermodynamics.

Prerequisites: MTH 211; PHY 161 with a grade of C or higher.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Demonstrate understanding of the relationship between work and heat energy.
2. Apply the laws of thermodynamics to understand the limits of any given system with respect to efficiency.
3. Assess the role of the working substances in various thermodynamic processes and cycles.
