SUS 206 - Special Topics in Sustainability Seminar

3 Credits

An interdisciplinary seminar course concerned with current problems and innovations in sustainability. Possible course topics include water quality/availability, fossil fuels, food production/security, and community design. Students will read and discuss a variety of texts on the course topic, and will develop a substantial research project.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Describe historical trends and developments relevant to the course topic.
2. Identify geographic trends and factors relevant to the course topic.
3. Describe ethical conflicts associated with the course topic.
4. Distinguish internal and external costs associated with the topic.
5. Differentiate ideologically-based arguments from empirically-based arguments relevant to the course topic.
6. Evaluate the interdependence of social, economic, and environmental systems as they pertain to the course topic.
7. Develop a substantial research project that explores and evaluates a relevant sub-topic.
