PST 265 - Public Safety Leadership Development Seminar

3 Credits

This course provides aspiring and emerging public safety leaders and those already in leadership positions the opportunity to explore the concept of leadership and to develop and improve their leadership knowledge, skills, and behaviors. The course integrates reading from the humanities, experiential exercises, dialogue, films, and contemporary readings on leadership in the public safety context.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Formulate a plan to address a leadership issue
2. Explain the concept of leadership to include differences between leadership, management, and supervision
3. Apply contemporary organizational behavior models to address leadership challenges to include conflict management, ethical decision making, personality differences, and transactional leadership
4. Assess the impacts of leadership decisions to include ethical, personal, and organizational perspectives
5. Formulate a personal philosophy of leadership to include values, personal beliefs, and attitudes
