THE 149 - Stage Movement

3 Credits

This course will survey a variety of kinesthetic performance techniques. Students will develop, implement and perform physically expressive theatrical characters and scenarios through spatial awareness and body control.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Critique physically expressive techniques in the performing arts (commedia dell’arte, unarmed combat, physical theatre, dance)
2. Describe the relevance of physical movement and body language to character development in a theatrical performance
3. Employ an effective warm-up routine comprised of relaxation, breathing and stretching exercises
4. Demonstrate spatial awareness through exercises in mime, pantomime, mask work and unarmed stage combat
5. Develop scenework according to the principles of effective stage movement
6. Perform original scenarios rich in physical expression
