THE 112 - Fundamentals of Acting One

3 Credits

An introductory theatre course that analyzes the history of the art of Acting, as well as theories and techniques used to create believable characters within dramatic scenes. Basic acting skills are taught through character analysis, theatre exercises, and performances of scenes.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Discuss the history of Acting as an art form
2. Interpret various theories of acting technique and apply those techniques to create and perform a character
3. Apply effective vocal and physical techniques to create multi-dimensional characters in theatrical scene work
4. Analyze and perform a character based on objective, tactics, motivation, and relationships
5. Apply artistic judgement regarding the dramatic effectiveness in theatrical scene work to classroom projects or campus theatrical productions.
6. Demonstrate a strength of self-concept and ease in performance situations
7. Perform contrasting monologues in order to explore and compare various characters
