| HMN 101 - Humanities: Experiencing Culture
3 Credits
An interdisciplinary humanities course designed to introduce students to the study of human expression through art, literature, music, philosophy, and architecture. As a required part of the course, students will attend various cultural events (plays, musical performances, gallery exhibits, lectures and speeches, etc.) on campus. They will analyze a variety of texts, visual images, and artifacts, and write about and discuss contextual influences on the arts and the creative process, such as changing cultural values and social conditions, scientific advancements, and global interdependence.
Prerequisite(s): ENG 101; or equivalent; or instructor permission (ENG 101 can be taken as a co-requisite).

The course will chronologically or thematically survey works of regions (including but not limited to Europe, Asia, Africa, India, and the Americas) from prehistory to 1500 while emphasizing oral and written analysis of primary and secondary works.
Prerequisite(s): English 101 with a grade of C or better or English 200 with a grade of C or better.
