THE 115 - Introduction to Theatrical Costuming

3 Credits

This course will introduce students to the art of costuming for the theatre. Students will study costume techniques based on historical, contemporary and fantastical designs and apply the principles of costume design and construction while working with an independent costumer on a college production.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Appraise effective costuming in historical, contemporary and fantastical productions through review and written evaluation
2. Design costumes for a specific play based on script and casting
3. Develop costuming techniques (drafting, measuring, sewing, fitting, altering and distressing) through practical application
4. Employ professional strategies while working with an independent costumer for a college production
5. Demonstrate an understanding of costume care, maintenance and dressing during a theatrical performance by working on the costume running crew for a college production
