CLT 100 - Introduction to Medical Laboratory Technology

1 Credit

Clinical laboratory personnel are essential members of the healthcare team. This course helps students explore careers in the clinical laboratory and introduces them to the inner workings of this important health system department. Details of the clinical laboratory technician program are provided, and students explore learning methods that can improve success in the program. Viewing human health in a global context will also be introduced. May be taken by non-majors.

Course Learning Outcomes
1. Identify and evaluate learning strategies that are likely to promote academic success.
2. Describe the preparation required for and the work performed in various clinical laboratory technical careers.
3. Explain the role of clinical laboratories in human health and disease.
4. Describe the checks and balances that are in place that help ensure quality laboratory results.
5. Describe how social, economic, cultural, political, or environmental factors contribute to individual or population health in example communities around the world.
