LAW 103 - Tort Law
3 Credits
Provides students with the concepts and legal theories used in tort law cases involving intentional and unintentional torts, including: torts against the person, torts against property, torts against reputation, malpractice, negligence, strict liability, and product liability. This course also explores various liability issues, defenses, types of damages, and procedural aspects of tort law cases.
Prerequisite(s): Legal Studies- A.S. Program Entrance and Successful Completion of LAW 101, or permission of Program Director.
Course Learning Outcomes
1.Differentiate between tortious acts and crimes.
2.Analyze the facts of a case to determine whether an intentional tort has been committed.
3.Analyze the facts of a case to determine whether the essential elements of negligence have been met.
4.Determine whether strict liability applies to a given fact pattern.
5.Detect the various defenses that may be raised to given tort causes of action.
