HUM 100 - Exploring Human Services

3 Credits

This course will provide an opportunity for students to explore the field of human services and serve as a college orientation course. It will include an overview of career choices within Human Services, an understanding of the field work experience, basic helping skills, self-assessment, and development of an academic, career, and financial plan to find success in the field. A student can only enroll and earn credit for one college orientation course.

Course Learning Outcomes
1.Articulate a basic understanding of the field of human services.
2.Evaluate career opportunities within human services.
3.Utilize department and college technology, resources, and activities.
4.Create an academic, career, and financial plan specific to a career in human services.
5.Employ strategies that promote academic success in Human Services programs.
6.Analyze ethical principles in the helping process.
7.Describe the historical evolution of human services and its impact on the field today.
8.Apply foundational psychological theories in relation to various groups in need in human services.
