ENR 259 - Engineering Design Lab

1 Credit

Students will work in teams to solve an engineering design problem of their choice subject to approval from the instructor. Students will be encouraged to choose a project from an intercollegiate engineering design competition. Teams will engage in dialogue and advocate for ideas around the engineering design process, build a working prototype, keep an engineering notebook and submit a weekly time sheets. The course culminates with a final design report and a final oral presentation that provides an overview of the design process.

Prerequisite(s): ENR 161 AND ENR 153 or ENR 157, all with a C or higher

Course Learning Outcomes
1.Apply knowledge from previous engineering courses to propose and advocate for a design solution
2.Construct a working prototype accounting for technical requirements and design specifications
3.Evaluate prototype design performance and revise as necessary while justifying decisions through transparent reasoning.
4.Collaboratively engage in dialogue with a team and reach consensus through deliberation of factors influencing engineering design and the practices of advocacy and constructive dissent
5.Produce a detailed design report and oral presentation that provides and overview of the design process and attends to ethical considerations such as safety, sustainability, and the impact of engineering on society.
