HMN 221 - Global Humanities II
4 Credits
Interdisciplinary study of a variety of significant works of literature, philosophy, history, art, and music from a global perspective. The course will chronologically or thematically survey works of regions (including but not limited to Europe, Asia, Africa, India, and the Americas) from 1500 to the present while emphasizing oral and written analysis of primary and secondary works.
Prerequisite(s): English 101 with a grade of C or better, or English 200 with a grade of C or better.

Course Learning Outcomes
1.Analyze the literary, philosophical, historical, artistic, and musical works of diverse cultures throughout world history (1500 to the present) using field-appropriate terminology and various critical methodologies.
2.Compare and/or contrast the literary, philosophical, historical, artistic, and musical works of diverse cultures throughout world history (1500 to the present).
3.Discuss literary, philosophical, historical, artistic, and musical works as primary cultural expressions in the formation of the social and political structures and systems of various civilizations throughout world history (1500 to the present).
4.Apply the appropriate formal conventions when writing about the literary, philosophical, artistic, historical, and musical works of diverse cultures throughout history (1500 to the present).
5.Write a thesis-driven essay using primary sources (literary, philosophical, historical, artistic, and/or musical works) and secondary sources.
