EDU 100 - Introduction to Teaching
1 Credit
A seminar course introducing students to the field of teaching. Topics include current learning standards, lesson planning, differentiated instruction and assessment for a range of learners, certification requirements, and professional expectations. This course provides students with the opportunity to explore the field of teaching, the basic elements of instruction, create and present an instructional lesson within a chosen content area, and develop connections with other future educators.
Course Learning Outcomes
1.Discuss the responsibilities and expectations associated with a career in teaching.
2.Apply state and national learning standards to lesson design.
3.Create a lesson based upon effective teaching practices.
4.Design differentiated assessments for a student-created lesson, for a range of abilities in a student's chosen content area.
5.Present a student-created lesson plan utilizing effective teaching practices.
6.Describe the teacher certification process.
