What Is Work-Study?
Federal Work-Study is a need-based financial aid program that allows eligible students
to earn money through part-time employment while enrolled at MCC. If you qualify,
Work-Study becomes part of your financial aid offer and gives you access to approved
student jobs on or off campus. To participate, you must complete the FAFSA and be
awarded Work-Study.

Work-Study is designed to support your education—not compete with it. Students often
choose Work-Study because it offers:
Paid positions at or above the federal minimum wage
Biweekly paychecks to help cover everyday expenses

How to Apply for Work-Study
Step 1
Complete Your FAFSA & Select “Yes” for Work-Study
Federal Work-Study is awarded through FAFSA, so you must file your FAFSA to be eligible for the program. When you complete the
FAFSA, you’ll be asked if you’re interested in Federal Work-Study. Be sure to select
“Yes” so you’re considered for the program.
If you’re approved for Federal Work-Study, it will appear in your financial aid award
in your MCC student portal. You’ll need to accept the financial aid offer before you
can apply for jobs.
Before your first shift, you’ll need to complete required onboarding steps. Your supervisor
or hiring department will guide you through what’s needed.
Understand Your Work-Study Award
Your Work-Study award sets a maximum amount you can earn for the academic year. A
few things to know:
You’re paid hourly for the hours you work
You cannot earn more than your awarded amount
Your supervisor will help you manage hours so you stay within your limit
