Jan Z. Wiranowski Endowed Renaissance Scholarships

During his many years of service to MCC, since 1967, Professor Wiranowski has been continually inspired and encouraged by many prominent members of the College Community whose vision and faith in human potential have significantly impacted his career. It is against this intellectually fertile background at MCC that Professor Wiranowski was able to meet head on the challenges of significant professional diversification and enrichment. Aside from teaching mathematics during the last 30 years, Professor Wiranowski had also taught several languages at MCC. In addition, some of his professional work in mathematics has been published and is used at MCC.

He established four endowed Renaissance Scholarships @ $2,000 each, credited towards the MCC tuition, in order to express his care for students, his gratitude to MCC and to underscore his faith in human potential. It is his hope that these scholarships will assist students who are aspiring to a career: in mathematics; in mathematics related fields; students interested in promoting humanistic values and ideals; and finally, students with a nontraditional academic trail. Accordingly, the three J.Z. Wiranowski Renaissance Scholarships are grouped in the following two categories:

  • math and/or math-based science
  • non-traditional academic background and/or out-of-the-ordinary life experiences

Note:

  • The distribution of the awards among the applicants will depend on the qualifications of the applicants. Hence, it is conceivable that in any given year all three recipients could be receiving the same type of scholarship.
  • An applicant may be awarded up to two scholarships: one from the math and/or math-based science category and one from the non-math category. If more than one scholarship is applied for, a separate application must be submitted for each scholarship.

Jan Z. Wiranowski Endowed Universal Humanism of Hope Scholarships

Universal Humanism of Hope or Astro-Planetary Humanism of Hope is a concept designed to be thought provoking, subject to exploration and further development by the interested and committed. Source of the concept: over 70 years of life experiences, observation and reflection on a life trail through barbarisms of war, life-or-death situations, ruthless oppression, misery, hunger, discrimination, injustice and abuse – all the way to the affirmation of faith in an enlightened human potential and in humanism of hope. Thus, A Universal Humanist of Hope is a humanist of today and of tomorrow, a human being with big horizons, universally educated and caring; a person who aspires to freedom from the confines of societal cocoons; someone dedicated to the individual and collective human rights and interests, as well as to animal rights. All of this within the context of this awesome, inspiring, and challenging Universe of which humans are an integral part; a Universe that may be impacted through sciences whenever necessary and possible, in order to insure welfare and survival of the species. And also, in order to advance the unyielding quest for human identity and its place and role in the Universe, if any.

This scholarship is for $2,500, credited towards the MCC tuition.

Eligibility:  Any student currently enrolled in at least 10 credit hours at Monroe Community College meeting the following requirements:
