What Are College Success Courses?

College Success (COS) courses are designed to help students transition successfully into college. Students have the option of taking COS 101 College Orientation, a one credit course that meets for part of the semester, or COS 133 College Orientation and Success Strategies, a three-credit course that meets for the full semester. COS 133 also fulfills MCC General Education credit for Technological Literacy and Speaking.

What Are Topics Covered in College Success Courses?

Topics include campus resources and activities, MCC technology, goal setting, time management, study skills, college policies, and more.

What Are the Benefits of Taking a College Success Course?

Students who take College Success courses learn strategies that promote academic success and how to use MCC technology. In addition, students learn how, why, and when to access college resources and activities. Students also practice interpersonal skills essential in a diverse, global society. By the end of the course students create an academic, career, and financial plan.

What are Career Development and Life Planning Courses?

Career Development and Life Planning (CDL) courses are designed to introduce students to career decision making with an emphasis on career and life planning. Students have the option of taking CDL 100 Career Development and Life Planning, a one credit course that meets for part of the semester, or CDL 110 Career and Life Planning for the Undecided Student, a two-credit course that meets for part of the semester.

What Are Topics Covered in Career Development and Life Planning Courses?

Topics include self-exploration, decision-making strategies, career exploration, career counseling, and career planning and more.

What Are the Benefits of Taking a Career Development and Life Planning Course?

Students who take Career Development and Life Planning courses learn strategies that promote self-awareness and build a foundation for a future career path. In addition, students will participate in career forums featuring professionals from various career areas. Students also practice interpersonal skills and decision-making strategies essential in a diverse, global society.
