Advanced Firearms Instructor Course

Program Announcement

The Monroe County Public Safety Training Facility (PSTF), in partnership with the Rochester Police Department, will be holding an Advanced Firearms Instructor Course at 1190 Scottsville Road, Rochester, New York. This course prepares MPTC certified firearms instructors to teach numerous advanced issues pertaining to firearms. It is presented in the classroom and on a firearms range.

Students who successfully complete this course will receive two (2) college credits from Monroe Community College.

Session Dates

April 22 thru 26, 2024, 8:30am to 4:30pm

Prerequisites

  • MPTC Firearms Instructor Certification
  • Completion of a Basic Course for Police or Peace Officer
  • Three (3) years of experience in a police of peace officer position requiring the carrying of a firearm

Required Attire and/or Equipment

  • Attire (dress code)
    • Battle Dress Uniform (BDU),
    • Training shirt (Polo preferred)
    • Baseball cap

  • Equipment
    • Duty gear: belt, handgun, holster, 3 spare magazines (500 rounds practice ammunition)
    • 12-gauge shotgun (25 rounds slug, 100 rounds buckshot)
    • Protective vest
    • Hearing & eye protection
    • Groin protection
    • Pen and notebook
    • Flashlight
    • Flash drive to obtain course materials

Graduation Requirements

  • 90% attendance (policy set by Monroe Community College)
  • 70% passing grade on written examination
  • Passing grade on proficiency test

Course Tuition and Fees

  • Tuition: $408.00 (per person)
  • Estimated Student Fees: $111.75 (Student fees may vary each semester)
  • Agencies will be billed directly

Note: Monroe Community College may find it necessary to revise tuition and fees as necessary and reserves the right to do so.

Reservations

Please complete the online Law Enforcement Program Course Reservation Form prior to April 1, 2024. Submitting a reservation form does not guarantee admittance to a course. Confirmation notices will be emailed approximately 2 weeks prior to the class. Please remember to check your junk/spam folder.

To avoid double tuition billing, a Certificate of Residence is required from students who reside outside of Monroe County.
