Crime Scene Evidence Specialist Course

Program Announcement

The Monroe County Public Safety Training Facility (PSTF), under the auspices of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), will be holding a Crime Scene Evidence Specialist Course at 1190 Scottsville Road, Rochester, NY. This course trains law enforcement officers how to record and document crime scenes and how to properly collect evidence. Instructional areas include recognizing and establishing the physical boundaries of a crime scene and evidence contained within, protecting the crime scene from contamination and degradation, having a working knowledge of powder/chemical processing of evidence, knowing how to properly secure, mark and package physical evidence, and basic camera operation.

Students who successfully complete this course will receive four (4) college credits from Monroe Community College.

Session Dates

February 10 thru 21, 2025, 8:00am to 4:00pm

Prerequisites

  • Active NYS police of peace officer (or designated civilian employee)
  • Basic Investigative Photography Course

Required Attire and/or Equipment

Attire (dress code):

  • Business casual, or
  • Department designated uniform of the day

Equipment:

  • Digital SLR capable of manual operation
  • Flash for camera
  • Macro lens for camera
  • Tripod for camera
  • Fingerprint powder & brush
  • Lifting tape
  • Fingerprint lift cards
  • 6” ruler grey scale
  • Mag brush and power
  • 25’ tape measure
  • Flashlight for night photography

Graduation Requirements

  • 90% attendance (policy set by Monroe Community College)
  • 70% passing grade on written examination
  • Passing grade on proficiency test

Course Tuition and Fees

  • Tuition: $840.00 (per person)
  • Estimated Student Fees: $113.75 (Student fees may vary each semester)
  • Agencies will be billed directly
  • It is Not necessary to send a check or voucher prior to class. Students will be billed at the completion of the course.

Note: Monroe Community College may find it necessary to revise tuition and fees as necessary and reserves the right to do so.

Reservations

Please complete the online Law Enforcement Program Course Reservation Form prior to January 13, 2025. Submitting a reservation form does not guarantee admittance to a course. Confirmation notices will be emailed approximately 2 weeks prior to the class. Please remember to check your junk/spam folder.

To avoid double tuition billing, a Certificate of Residence is required from students who reside outside of Monroe County.
