Police Field Training Officer Course
Program Announcement
The Monroe County Public Safety Training Facility (PSTF), under the auspices of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), will be holding a Police Field Training Officer Course at 1190 Scottsville Road, Rochester, NY. This course teaches veteran officers how to train recruit officers during the Supervised Field Training, Orientation and Review component of the Basic Course for Police Officers with the goal to transition the recruit officer from the academy setting to a patrol assignment.
Students who successfully complete this course will receive two (2) college credits from Monroe Community College.
Session Dates
April 14 through 17, 2025, 8am to 4pm
Prerequisites
- Full time, active duty NYS certified police officer or peace officer
Required Attire and/or Equipment

- Business casual or
- Department uniform of the day

- Key elements of a successful training officer program
- Field training program management
- Competency expectations, evaluations, and documentation
- Principles of adult learning
- Teaching skills and presentation
- Role of the field training officer
- Override and intervention techniques
- Remediation methodologies and strategies
- Legal and liability issues for the FTO
Graduation Requirements
- 90% attendance (policy set by Monroe Community College)
- 70% passing grade on written examination
Course Tuition and Fees
- Tuition: $420.00 (per person)
- Estimated Student Fees: $113.75 (Student fees may vary each semester)
- Agencies will be billed directly
Note: Monroe Community College reserves the right to revise tuition and fees as necessary
Reservations
Please complete the online Law Enforcement Program Course Reservation Form prior to November 18, 2024, for the December session and March 17, 2025 for the April session. Submitting a reservation form does not guarantee admittance to a course. Confirmation notices will be emailed approximately 2 weeks prior to the class. Please remember to check your junk/spam folder.
To avoid double tuition billing, a Certificate of Residence is required from students who reside outside of Monroe County.
