Reality-Based Training Instructor Course
Program Announcement
The Monroe County Public Safety Training Facility (PSTF), under the auspices of the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS), will be holding the MPTC approved Reality Based Training Instructor Course at 1190 Scottsville Road, Rochester, New York. This course provides participants with an advanced level of knowledge and experience in the realm of Reality Based Training program design and implementation, as well as a solid understanding of the safety requirements for use of the discussed simulation equipment. Attendance will be capped at twenty (20) students.
Students who successfully complete this course will receive two (2) credits from Monroe Community College.
Session Dates
June 23 thru June 27, 2025, 8 am to 4 pm
Prerequisites
- Active duty NYS police or peace officer;
- NYS DCJS certified general topics instructor; and
- NYS DCJS certified firearms or defensive tactics instructor
Required Attire and/or Equipment
Attire:
- Coveralls, or
- BDU style clothing
Equipment:
- Flash drive for course materials
- Duty belt
- Weapons modified for use with SIMUNITION© FX© marking cartridges
- Duty Taser (if certified to carry)
- Duty batons
- Eye protection
- 50 rounds of SIMUNITION© FX© marking cartridges
- Writing instruments
- Protective Gear
- Inert chemical agent
- Training baton

Graduation Requirements
- 90% attendance (policy set by Monroe Community College)
- 70% passing grade on written examination(s) and satisfactory completion of practical exercises
Course Tuition and Fees
- Tuition: $420.00 (per person)
- Estimated Student Fees: $113.75 (Student fees may vary each semester)
- It is Not necessary to send a check or voucher prior to class. Students will be billed at the completion of the course.
Note: Monroe Community College reserves the right to revise tuition and fees as necessary.
Reservations
Please complete the online Law Enforcement Program Course Reservation Form prior to the deadline of June 2, 2025. Submitting a reservation form does not guarantee admittance to a course. Confirmation notices will be emailed approximately 2 weeks prior to the class. Please remember to check your junk/spam folder.
To avoid double tuition billing, a Certificate of Residence is required from students who reside outside of Monroe County.
