CARES Act: Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds
Good news for MCC Students Who Have Accrued Between $1,000 and $4,000 in Debt to the College
We are happy to announce a debt reduction program for students who attended MCC from spring 2020 to spring 2021 semesters. This federally funded program reduces debt owed to the College for tuition and fees and offers welcome relief during this stressful and challenging time in our country. Please read on to learn more.
- What is the Higher Education Emergency Relief Funds program?
The funds for this debt relief program were created as part of the federally funded Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act. These federal funds have allowed MCC Student Accounts to reduce a portion of debt for qualified students. The reduction affects tuition and fees owed to the college, but does not include student loans and other fees. - Why does reducing the amount owed allow me to register?
Reducing a student account balance to under $1,000 releases your registration hold for money owed the college. This allows you to continue your program and take advantage of the many benefits of a college education. - Do I have to do anything to have my debt reduced?
You do not have to take any action. This debt reduction is automatic for students who qualify. - Will I see the reduction on my account balance?
Yes, this debt has already been discharged from your account. You can check by going to myMCC and logging in. If you do not have an active myMCC account, contact MCC Student Accounts at studentaccounts@monroecc.edu or call 292-2015. - Does this affect my academic hold?
This program only impacts debt owed to the College. If you have a question about an academic or other hold, contact MCC Student Accounts at studentaccounts@monroecc.edu or call 292-2015. -
