| MMP 100 - Survey of Automotive Transportation and Service
This course will examine the effects of the automobile on global society and the environment from various perspectives, exploring the resulting factors driving changes in automotive and emissions technologies. Students will consider political, economic and ethical issues associated with the automotive industry that include safety devices, emissions standards, factory recalls, state and federal legislation and repair practices. This course will also look at how these global, environmental and ethical factors shape automotive service career responsibilities and opportunities. Students may wish to take MMP 101 Survey of Automotive Service Lab concurrently. This accompanying lab component is highly recommended but not required. 3 Credits. |  |
| MMP 101 - Survey of Automotive Service Lab
Students will apply valid service resources and utilize state-of-the-art equipment to perform and report ethically based automotive inspections, maintenance and services. Proper shop safety practices and entry-level job skills for automotive service will be covered. The department highly recommends students enrolled in this course also concurrently enroll in MMP 100 Survey of Automotive Service and Transportation. 1 Credit. | |
| MMP 151 - Introduction to Automotive Service
An introductory course designed to develop entry level skills, including: workplace safety, proper use of hand tools and lifts, application of manufacturer vehicle information systems, vehicle maintenance, scan tool usage and an overview of vehicle systems. 4.5 Credits. MTH 098 (may be taken concurrently or previously completed) OR MCC Level 6 Mathematics placement. | |
| MMP 152 - Automotive Electrical I
A study of basic automotive electricity including Ohms law, circuit analysis, meter usage, discrete solid state components, magnetic induction, motor principles, and wire repair. 3 Credits. MMP 151 with a grade of C or higher. | |
| MMP 155 - Automotive Braking Systems
Theory related instruction and demonstration of testing and repair procedures covering automotive brake systems. Includes drum and disc brakes, hydraulic systems, power assist and anti-lock systems. 4.5 Credits. MTH 098 (may be taken concurrently or previously completed) OR MCC Level 6 Mathematics placement. | |
| MMP 156 - Steering and Suspension
In-depth study of adjustable and non-adjustable alignment measurements with emphasis on proper alignment techniques, methods of adjustment, complete 4-wheel alignment. Manual and power steering system diagnosis and repair, complete suspension system service including coil spring, torsion bar, and MacPherson struts. 4.5 Credits. MMP 151 with a grade C or higher. | |

A class focusing on the 4-stroke theory and practical procedures necessary to diagnose and repair automotive type gasoline engines, including; diagnosis, component inspection, proper disassembly and reassembly procedures, and critical engine measurements. 4.5 Credits. A class focusing on theory-related instruction and demonstration of testing and repair procedures covering automotive heating and air conditioning systems. This course provides theory for refrigeration systems. 3 Credits. MMP 203 and 272; each with a grade of C or higher. | |
| MMP 201 - Engine Performance I
Theory related instruction and demonstration of testing and repair procedures covering emission controls, engine performance diagnosis, 4 and 5 gas analysis, scope patterns, and ignition systems. 3 Credits. MMP 158, 203, and 272; each with grade C or higher. | |
| MMP 202 - Engine Performance II
The theory, operation and diagnosis of computerized engine controls and fuel systems. 4 Credits. MMP 201 and 273; each with a grade C or higher. | |
| MMP 203 - Automotive Electrical II
Theory-related instruction and demonstration of testing and repair procedures covers automotive charging, starting, lighting, and accessories. Schematic reading will be emphasized throughout the course. 4 Credits. MMP 152 with a grade of C or higher. | |
| MMP 204 - Transmissions and Drivetrain
This course includes the theory of operation, diagnosis, maintenance and repair of automobile transmissions and transaxles. There will be emphasis on hands-on work. 4 Credits. MMP 203 and 273; each with a grade of C or higher. | |
