College Now Office Role

The College Now Program at Monroe Community College provides college credit opportunities to local area high school students. The College Now office facilitates communication between the high schools and the college to create partnerships for a common purpose of preparing students for success beyond high school.

Specifically, for each term, the College Now office will:

  • Communicate the scholarship, registration, tuition payment, and drop/add/withdrawal schedules and deadlines to high school district administrators, high school primary contacts, high school teachers, and MCC Liaisons;
  • Share basic course information and the teacher/liaison pairings with high school teachers and Liaisons;
  • Orient Liaisons to their role and expectations;
  • Send promotional materials and registration processes to high school teachers and other high school contacts;
  • Send deadlines and reminders to high school students/parents, teachers and Liaisons;
  • Finalize registration of College Now students;
  • Share rosters with high school teachers and Liaisons.

High School Primary Contact Role

The primary contact-person at the high school works directly with the College Now office.  Their primary role is to gather and share information in a timely manner with their school community. The role and expectations of College Now primary contacts are as follows:

  • Plan each year’s College Now course projections and schedule in coordination with the College Now office;
  • Submit teacher qualifications for certification
  • Verify course prerequisites and upload student transcripts
  • Verify student eligibility for scholarships

College Now high school teachers are certified to teach by MCC faculty. They must meet department criteria and be certified in order to teach an MCC credit course.  Specific criteria are listed in this handbook. The role and expectations of College Now high school teachers are as follows:

  • Disseminate College Now information to all students in the class;
  • Maintain the philosophical, pedagogical, and theoretical orientation of the MCC course in their classroom;
  • Provide a Course Information Sheet to all students registered for MCC credit.
  • Remind students and parents of registration and payment deadlines and MCC course prerequisite requirements;
  • Verify roster accuracy, and inform MCC faculty liaison of students to be withdrawn or removed from the roster;
  • Follow the MCC grading system for grades submitted to the faculty liaison.
  • Attend orientation and professional development delivered by the Liaison;
  • Facilitate a site visit at the high school for the MCC faculty liaison;
  • Encourage students to complete the MCC College Now course evaluation;

  • Submit final grades to MCC faculty liaison by the deadline;
  • Complete an assessment of the College Now program each year.

Teachers should contact the College Now office if they experience difficulty communicating with their faculty liaison.

MCC Faculty Liaison Role

An MCC faculty member, or liaison, is assigned to every high school College Now course and works closely with the certified high school teacher. The faculty liaison is responsible for all supervisory aspects of the course. This includes such activities as orientation of the high school teacher, review of all instructional materials, course outline and examinations, observation of classroom teaching, review of student performance in cooperation with the high school teacher and coordination with college administrative offices.

The expectations of Liaisons are as follows:

  • Orient teachers;
  • Review instructional materials, course information sheets, and assessments with teachers;
  • Assist high school teachers in the student registration process;
  • Observe the high school teacher using the observation rubric used within the department;
  • Perform periodic student progress checks; process withdrawals as needed;
  • Certify attendance and grades, and submit student grades in Banner;
  • Maintain contact with the College Now office (e.g. submit dates of orientation, professional development, and copies of observation forms to the College Now office).
